There is a lot of talk about artificial intelligence, but have we considered what happens if they start to feel? The Sentient is about a sheriff deputy who gets partnered with a sophisticated robot who not only can detect minute changes in smells, hormones, and emotions, but can mimic them as well. When the experimenters find out that two of the scientists on the team added stem cells to the robot, the story turns sinister. The robot develops human characteristics, including an inflated ego, and begins to ask the question we are all afraid of:
Do we really need all these humans?
